Welcome back to Readerzz!
Today we’re continuing our series on The Self-Driving You: Awaken the Driver Within to Rewire Your Brain and Transform Your Life with Alan Bodnar.
Last episode, we built the foundation: the idea that much of our life runs on autopilot, with a conscious driver who can step in, take the wheel, and begin to rewire the system. In Part 2, we go under the hood.
This episode gets into the actual circuits behind the self-driving system: the survival circuits that trigger fear and overreaction, the intuitive circuits shaped by repetition and early programming, and the default-mode circuits behind mind-wandering, old mental loops, and that inner playlist that turns on when we are idle.
We also move into the practical heart of the book: attention, breath, and mindfulness. We talk about how to apply the brake when the system is running hot, why the things we reach for to feel better often only work temporarily, and how noticing a pattern, even after it happens, can still be the beginning of real change.
This episode is about learning not to take every reaction so personally. The hijack, the spiral, the urge to escape into your phone — those are circuits doing what they were wired to do. But the driver is still there, and with practice, the system can be retrained.
Enjoy!
